by Jacques DE BYE (Antwerp 1581 - Paris 1640) "Christ foresees the destruction of Jerusalem" Original burin engraving from a subject by Martin de Vos, anonymous copy of Jacques de Bye's engraving listed on Hollstein De Vos at no. 306 , included in the collection entitled "Theatrum Biblicum, hoc est, Historiae sacrae veteris et novi testamenti tabulis aeneis expressae" (seventeenth-century version of Gerard de Jode's "Thesaurus Novi Testamenti ..."), published in Amsterdam by Jansz Claes Visscher between 1639 and 1674. Beautiful specimen printed on a portion of thin laid-out paper bearing the "Arme di Amsterdam" watermark (Churchill 1 and following), typical of 17th-century Dutch paper production, with large margins beyond the imprint of the plate, with small foxing points and other minimal defects at the edges and the trace of a central vertical fold but overall in excellent condition. Bibliography: Hollstein “Maarten de Vos” Rotterdam 1996 vol.XLVI n ° 306. Milesi "Dictionary of Engravers" Bergamo 1989 page 72. Wurzbach "Niederlandisches Kunstler Lexicon" Leipzig 1906 - 1911 vol.1 page 97 n ° 1. Measurements in mm: 208 x 265
